LANGBAURGH (REDCAR AND TEESSIDE)
TALKING NEWSPAPER
The Langbaurgh Talking Newspaper (LTN) is a registered charity which produces
a monthly recording of news stories and general interest pieces for distribution
to blind and partially-sighted people across the lower Tees valley, from Hartlepool,
through Middlesbrough and Stockton to Redcar to East Cleveland. Recordings are
sent to listeners free of charge (and with free postage) on CDs or USB memory sticks.
They are also available on Alexa smart speakers under the name 'Redcar Talking
Newspaper' (NB Redcar Talking Newspaper is not a different newspaper, it is simply the
name that you should use if you want to listen to the Langbaurgh Talking
Newspaper on a smart speaker).
LTN was founded in 1977 and has been in continuous production since then, apart from
a break between March 2020 and August 2021 due to the Covid pandemic. In 2013,
LTN formed a partnership with Cleveland News and Views (CNV) which lasted until
March 2020 when CNV stopped operating. LTN is now the only talking newspaper in
the area of the former Cleveland County. Our nearest neighbour is Darlington
Talking Newspaper.
There are currently around 40 regular listeners, and 9 volunteers who work on all
aspects of running the talking newspaper and making the monthly recordings.
If you know someone who might be interested in receiving monthly recordings,
or in becoming a volunteer at LTN, please contact the secretary, David Rae,
(01642) 472287.
